After winning his first VHT S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship in 2021 (Joey Mawson crowned Australian Drivers Champion), Joey returned to successfully defend his title throughout the challenging 2022 competition. A particularly special moment of the season being Joey’s win at the 2022 Melbourne Grand Prix, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the Banner staff in attendance at Albert Park. Banner has been in partnership with Joey since 2018.

Joey’s victory now firmly placing him with an esteemed group of successful preceding drivers of the competition.

We were privileged to catch up with Joey after his historic championship win.

“It feels very special to have gone back-to-back as the S5000 Australian Drivers Champion. The Gold star, you’re in the history books. Coming in as the defending champion the pressure is on. The competition went another step higher this season, so it makes it ever more satisfying. The Grand Prix weekend was my strongest round which really set up the championship. I look forward to what the future holds for my career now. Thank you Banner for your support again in 2022.”
